Practicing Thankfulness

Happy Tuesday Loves!

With the thanksgiving holiday approaching, I’d like to talk about thankfulness. I was MIA for the past month or so on the blog because my mother had surgery and I had to be there for her and her well-being takes precedence over the blog. She is doing much better, thank God.

Back to topic, as I’ve looked at everything my family and I have been through the past year, I can’t help but be thankful. I find it ironic that my last post on the blog was also about thankfulness, so maybe there’s a theme here. I used to understand thankfulness as a grand gesture of some sort but I realize it doesn’t have to be. The short of it is recognizing that whatever it is you have to be thankful for, wouldn’t “be” if it weren’t for that (whatever ‘that’ is) external factor. You can give thanks and not be thankful because being thankful expresses not only thanks but also relief. Relief that what could have been is no longer.  Relief that what took place served for your best, but you couldn’t realize it at the time. Relief that as a result of what took place you’ve been changed for the better. And that’s when I realized I have a plethora of things to be thankful for.  See Below for more.

I’m thankful for my mom’s surgery because realizing the fragility of man pushed my husband and I to face our own fragility and dive head first into our infertility journey.

I’m thankful for my infertility journey because it helped me realize that I am not alone. I am always amazed to see the waiting room filled with men and women of every ethnic background, belief, profession and race. Thus my “unique” experience is not so unique.

I am thankful for a career and place of work that provide me with the professional challenges to grow and the flexibility to live a fulfilled life.

Most of all, I am thankful for an ever merciful God who saw it fit that even I, could be a part of his unending grace. With that said, have an amazing Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy your family. I would like to know what you’re thankful for in the comments below. As Always,
